Sinot Introduces 112m Superyacht Design Concept Powered by Hydrogen and Fuel Cells: Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the Amsterdam-based studio, has introduced a groundbreaking superyacht concept called Aqua. The 112-meter superyacht would be fully powered by hydrogen and fuel cell technology in an effort to combine ground-breaking technology with cutting-edge design.
The designers at Sinot collaborated with Lateral Naval Architects on the liquid hydrogen and fuel cell technology to produce a concept with a speed of 17 knots and a range of 3,750nm. Aqua optimizes hull, energy and space efficiency while providing a maximal superyacht experience at the highest comfort level.
Designer Sander Sinot explained that the hydrogen-electric system is capable of fulfilling all onboard energy needs. Achieving a new balance between nature and technology, the system is based on using liquefied hydrogen, stored at -253°C in two 28-ton vacuum isolated tanks. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells convert the liquefied hydrogen into electrical energy, with water as the only byproduct.
Output, system layout, range and physical dimensions are based on this system. Generated electrical energy is transmitted to Aqua’s switchboards, and then distributed to provide power for propulsion, auxiliary systems and hotel services. Large batteries buffer the generated electricity to ensure power demands are always met.
Superyacht Aqua is also very quiet, with little news or vibrations. She features a spectacular, extremely spacious, beam-wide owner’s pavilion that occupies the front half of the upper deck and offers an abundance of privacy. The pavilion features a vast open-plan area of interlinked spaces with wooden screens providing intimacy and subdued lighting. At the starboard and port sides, floor-to-ceiling windows supply an impression of openness and freedom.
Ceiling height varies from 280 cm. to an impressive 380 cm. at the large central skylight and is supported by an intricately crafted wooden structure. Bedrooms are located at the yacht’s axis where there is an endless sightline all the way to the Aqua room at the bow. The owner’s pavilion features a large bathroom, dressing room and a private spa. At the far end of the owner’s pavilion offers endless views from the best position on board.
On the beach deck are the expansive VIP staterooms with highly elaborate furnishings. The VIP cabin and other staterooms focus on openness, luxury and comfort in a highly detailed minimalist Japanese beach-style setting.
The indoor wellness center has reflecting waves of water that complement the onboard environment with their soft vibrating motion. Here guest will find a hydro massage room, a yoga space and workout floor and a massive hatch that opens to reveal the ocean surface at water level.
A spectacular circular staircase at Aqua’s core is one of her defining features. On the lowest level are the two liquefied hydrogen tanks placed behind a giant façade of strengthened glass.
Ocean swells inspired Aqua’s flowing exterior lines. The curved top deck culminates in a sensational bow with integrated observatory. The hull is a sculpted overall double curved volume, intersected by the glass band windows.
